Ethics and Integrity (ETH 101)

The 1967 Challenge of Crime in a Free Society Report from the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice contained 37 specific recommendations that focused on police. One of the 37 recommendations focused on the values and the need for maintenance of ethical behaviors during the execution of police duties. The Commission wrote that values are in the heart, not in a rule book. A thorough understanding and internalization of ethics and integrity aid in the self-discovery process which contributes to effective prevention and enforcement strategies as applied within the police environment.

ETH 101 explores the concept of ethics and integrity as it applies to an individual officer, both on-duty and off-duty, as well as, the culture of the policing environment in which they work.
